Four Theses Defended at Politecnico di Bari as Part of the LIFE GreenLife4Seas Project!

Since July 2024, four theses have been successfully discussed at the Politecnico di Bari, all belonging to the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Building and Chemical Engineering. These theses, developed within the framework of LIFE GreenLife4Seas, si concentrano su soluzioni innovative per il recupero e il riutilizzo dei sedimenti dragati dai porti e dei gusci di mitili, trasformandoli in sottoprodotti sostenibili attraverso tecnologie avanzate di miscelazione.

Here are the theses in question:

  1. “Geomechanical characterization of sediment dredged from the port of Barletta for the GREENLIFE4SEAS project” – Laureanda Irene Lorenzo, Relatrice Prof.ssa Claudia Vitone, Correlatrice Dott.ssa Rossella Petti [Corso di Laurea in Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale. Tesi di Laurea in Fondamenti di Geotecnica]
  2. “Geotechnical characterization of the dredged sediment of the port of Bari for the GREENLIFEASEAS project.” - Graduate student: Donatella Lorusso, Supervisor: Prof. Francesco Cafaro, Co-rapporteur: Dr. Rossella Petti (Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering - Thesis in Geotechnics)
  3. “Development of sustainable cementitious materials: valorization of dredged marine sediments and mussel shells.” - Graduate student: Flavia Dimunno, Supervisor: Prof. Eng. Francesco Todaro, Co-Rapporteur: Prof. Dr. Chem. Andrea Petrella (Master's degree in Building Systems Engineering - Thesis in Innovative Building Materials)
  4. “Mechanical improvement and stabilization of dredged sediments and stabilization of dredged sediments based on reuse of waste.” - Graduate student: Federica De Pinto, Supervisor: Prof. Eng. Claudia Vitone, Co-Rapporteur: Eng. Rossella Petti (Master's degree in Civil Engineering - Thesis in Foundations)

These theses contribute significantly to the advancement of the project's goals, demonstrating the potential of marine waste materials to be repurposed for eco-friendly construction solutions, further strengthening the circular economy approach within the maritime sector.
