GL4S Monitoring Visit in Bari!
On 12 and 13 February 2026, the GREENLIFE4SEAS project hosted its official Monitoring Visit in Bari, Italy. The meetings took place at the Sala Consiliare DICATECh of the Polytechnic of Bari Politecnico di Bari (POLIBA), bringing together project partners and the LIFE Programme monitoring representative for a comprehensive review of the project’s progress.
Day 1 – Technical Review and Institutional Engagement
The first day was dedicated to an in-depth technical session covering all Work Packages. WP leaders presented the status of ongoing activities, the achievement of milestones, and the preparation of forthcoming deliverables.
The discussion addressed key components of the project, including shell powder treatment and certification, sediment characterisation and decontamination, engineering of the sediment–CemShell mix design, industrialisation and upscaling processes, environmental and economic sustainability assessment, as well as communication, dissemination, and policy advocacy activities.
In the afternoon, a technical meeting organised by the Italian Coast Guard focused on the logistical framework of the project and institutional support for the blue circular economy. The session highlighted the strategic relevance of GL4S within the broader maritime and environmental context. The day concluded with an on-site visit to the Port of Bari, providing participants with direct insight into the operational setting in which several project activities are implemented.
Day 2 – Financial Monitoring and Technical Site Visits
The second day focused on financial management and reporting. The monitoring expert delivered a presentation on the financial aspects of the periodic report, followed by an overview of the project’s financial progress as of December 2025.
Bilateral meetings were then held with each partner to review supporting documentation and ensure compliance with LIFE Programme requirements.
The Monitoring Visit concluded with technical visits to the POLIBA laboratories and to the VITONE ECO facilities in Bitonto, where partners presented the technological processes related to shell powder treatment and material valorisation.
Overall, the two-day visit confirmed the project’s steady progress towards its objectives and milestones, while reinforcing coordination among partners and alignment with the LIFE Programme monitoring framework.
